Olin Brass' "tailor-made" productions processes have helped forge our company's reputation as an innovative industry leader that produces high-quality products which satisfy exacting customer requirements. Our process begins after inspected raw materials are separated by alloy composition, compacted into bales and placed into melting furnaces. Most Olin Brass alloys are cast using a direct-chill technique which produces multiple large ingots. To form the ingots, molten metal is poured, cooled and solidified under closely controlled conditions. Specialists in our casting plant's
spectrographic laboratory utilize strict quality control procedures to verify the chemistry of each melt. Then, the metals are poured through a casting mold and formed into distinctive, bar-like shapes. After cooling, the ingots are identified with bar-code labels for tracking through Olin Brass' manufacturing process.
